Bull Riding at the JPJ and Nascar
March 20th 2008 by Kelly in Local EventNext weekend will be the first time that the Professional Bull Riders will come to the JPJ for an Invitational. Not to be confused with a rodeo the PBR(Professional Bull Riders) is a different competitive group and a fast growing one. The Riders will make a one night stop on March 29th. The stop is at the beginning of the competition and the world finals will not be until November in Las Vegas. There are 5 rounds where “the world’s best cowboy athletes will be matched randomly against the toughest bulls,” the highest scored rider will win the competition. Although one of the qualifying competitions for bull riders will be going on the same weekend in Albuquerque, NM there are over 800 cowboys that hold professional bull riding licences to ride the 2,000 pound animals. Tickets range from $5-$40 dollars.
If you’d like to get out of Charlottesville for the weekend to do something fun you could try a Nascar race that’s an hour away in Richmond. Nascar has races at Martinsville Speedway coming up next weekend. Martinsville Speedway is the shortest Sprint Cup Track. March 28th, 29th, and 30th you can catch a race. The 28th is the 500 Sprint Cup Race Qualifier, the Saturday is the Craftsman Truck Series 250 and Sunday is the Finals for the Goodys 500 Sprint Cup.
Have you ever been to a rodeo?
Do people camp at Martinsville Speedway for the race?
