Plan 9 Closing
April 22nd 2008 by Kelly in Charlottesville, UVAPlan 9 on the Corner will close its doors on May 31st. Plan 9’s 10 year lease in the Anderson Brothers Building runs up on the 31st and they don’t have plans to renew the contract. Jim Bland owner of the Richmond Plan 9 says that the store will remain in Albermarle Square and that no employees will lose their job. The corner store has felt the affects in recent years of downloading music online and less demand for cds. I wonder if the Higher Grounds coffee has felt the affects of decreased sales too along with the addition of Starbucks.
Where will people buy tickets for events now? I feel like every time the JPJ has an event or any event for Charlottesville (i.e. Foxfield) the tickets are sold at Plan 9.

Possibly Satellite Ballroom might move into the Plan 9 location? That would make a lot of people happy if Satellite Ballroom wasn’t permanently gone from the corner.

Sorry to see them go, but I’m surprised it lasted this long. How many people (especially college students) buy CDs any more. I’ve just always assumed all their money came from selling coffee.
