Long-Term Solution for Homeless

May 27th 2008 by Kelly in Local News

Tomorrow one of Charlottesville’s homeless shelters will close leaving at least 35 more people without a place to sleep.  Harold and Josh Bar, the father and son team that run the shelter, talked to City Council to explain the situation of the people left without a place to live.

Virginia Supportive Housing and TJACH are working on developing a new facility of efficiency apartments that will provide housing at low cost to some of Charlottesville’s homeless. The C-ville reported that the new development is still hundreds, thousands or millions of dollars off in the distance and it will take time to build the facility. Other cities are thinking of alternate ways to support their growing homeless problem.

What happened to the Charlottesville Shelter that Tom Shadyac, director of Evan Almighty bought? Is that up and running now? I could only find the C-ville’s article mentioning the purchase.

Janet Matthews is leading that charge. ASpire - a Community Alliance will open in the former First Christian Church Building on Market Street. Call the architects at Wolf Ackerman for more info.
