Java Java Raised the Price

Every morning we start off work at a coffee shop, it’s a good way to start the day! We trade off between Java Java and Cafe Cubano. We used to go to Mud House last year but haven’t been back in a long time, there’s not really a reason why we haven’t gone back, I guess we just made a habit out of the other coffee shops and wifi is a big component to where we go in the morning. Sometimes Cafe Cubano’s wifi is slow or stops so Java Java is pretty good at having consistent internet.
Now there’s a bigger reason to go to Cafe Cubano everyday. Java Java has slowly…over the course of 5 days raised their coffee, tea, and hot chocolate prices!!! It ranges from a 25cent raise to a 50cent raise!! I think any more than $2 dollars is too much to pay for a normal plain cup of coffee, if I wanted a $4 espresso, soy whip frappuccino fun drink, that would be one thing, but I’m talking about plain regular coffee for over $2. So, just to let you know, and because I love Tony and Cafe Cubano and their seemingly healthy and filling breakfasts, Cafe Cubano still sells you a large cup of coffee or ice coffee for $1.75, and if you drink it there, you get a free refill which will cost you an extra 75 cents at Java Java. If you don’t drink it there, he’ll still give you a refill for $1.00! So, you can go stroll the mall and go back and get a refill of your coffee.
Where do you get your coffee? La Taza used to be our coffee spot because we would walk from home, stop by Taza and come to work, now I moved and have to drive. I miss the walk and Taza Coffee.

I can’t remember what my hot chocolate at Cubano costs, but Java Java raised it by a quarter. Pretty much everything is going to go up (or already has), so I wasn’t particularly surprised ..

I’m a tea drinker, and I used to go to Java Java at least twice a day because they were fast and I never had to wait too long and they have good tea. I still like the place and while I admit that I have long wondered how they were making any money (it seemed more like some wealthy owner’s frivolous hobby shop) it just seems like a rather ungrateful way to treat your customers. Raise your prices, fine, but figure out how much you are going to raise them the FIRST time. And if you must raise the price of a large tea from 1.85 to 2.25 in less than 5 days how about a customer loyalty program? Like ok charge me an extra 40 cents but if I still show up twice a day I will get some of that back 6 drinks from now. Poor form JJ.

I go to Cubano in the mornings because I can get eggs and meat. I do appreciate Java Java’s atmosphere, though. I drink coffee for the caffeine (it all tastes gross to me) so anything more than a dollar sounds like too much.

Our work crew also used to be regulars at Java Java. Those days are now over with the price increase. $2.25 for a large coffee is insane! Splendora is where we’ll be going now….

That’s a good idea, I forget about Splendoras in the morning.

For the past year, I’ve gone to Java Java because it’s closest to my office and because staff is generally friendly. To speed the process up, I pre-purchase my coffee/tea by paying $18.53 for ten drinks. With that comes an 11th for free.
However, I’m a bit ticked off that I wasn’t told of the impending price increase when I bought a new card last week. I’m not mad at all that they’ve had to increase the price, because that’s something I’m sure they’re having to do to cover inflation. But, now, my card is more or less worthless in terms of my convenience because I have to shell out an extra 40 cents for each purchase.
I’ll likely switch to going to the Blue Ridge Country store for my morning coffee, because it’s cheaper, and I can get a refill when I go down for my lunch.

I was a Java-Java regular too, but I boycotted the no-refill-for-carry-out customers change for a couple weeks, but I went back. However the $2 small coffee did me in. Splendoras is good but the coffee never seems hot or strong enough for me. I’m doing the blue ridge country store from now on, plus their muffins include less flies then Java-Java’s…

I LOVE the Blue Ridge Country Store. Mostly for their lunch-time salad bar - but their breakfast and coffee isn’t bad either. You can’t beat them on price.

Quick update: The barrista this morning waived the extra fee on my pre-paid card, so I’m still a Java Java man.

That’s great! I think a lot of people would stick to Java Java even if they only kept the pre-paid cards the same.
