The summer always increases the amount of money I spend eating out, the weather is pretty and I’m more likely to sit downtown and hang out. I don’t like seeing the 4% meal tax in addition to my bill and regular tax. I always wonder, what if I was just having a snack and not a meal, would I still have to pay the tax? The answer is yes, here are all the ways that a meal tax is imposed.

Terrence Martin, owner of the Outback Lodge just found out how important it is to remit the meal tax each month.(Credit NBC 29) The meal tax is imposed on prepared foods each month. Restaurants file a form that is due no later than the last day of the month for the previous month’s sales. Albermarle maintains a 4% meal tax.
