Don’t Walk Across the Train Tracks

September 19th 2008 by Kelly in Local News, UVA

Crossing the train tracks is a big deal. Before you decide to take the shortcut just remember that the police officers are just waiting for you to step onto the tracks, and it will cost you, $100 dollars or 30 hours of community service. More in-depth coverage from The Hook (here) about why police officers are cracking down, especially on the students. The UVA girls in the picture were crossing the tracks in broad daylight and promptly issued train track violation tickets.

The Walker Square community and guests also run into the issue of where to cross the tracks. It’s a little awkward entering the apartment complex by car too since you have to turn by the Hampton, otherwise (if you turn by Maya) your tires will be slashed upon entrance into the community(they only want traffic to flow one way). That was a side note, the main point is I was walking from Walker Square to Fridays after Five and there is only one place, at the crossing for cars, that pedestrians are also aloud to cross without being ticketed.

Are the tickets really necessary to keep us safe?
