Charlottesville needs uWink Software

Have you ever wasted more than a minute moving your hand or purse(phone or wallet work too) across the bar at Ten? It’s even more fun if your cell phone blinks a red light. You can put the blinking light up to the a spot on the bar and see the light bounce to another square in front of you. Okay, yes maybe pointless but it’s kinda neat too, they could have just made a plain cement bar. The point, Charlottesville has neat ways to pass a little time, whether you’re waiting for a table or want a little distraction while you’re waiting for your drink. uWink locations are opening in California and I think they should consider Charlottesville for their next launch. Would you want this innovative software at your table instead of a waitress?
uWink is brought to you by some of the same people that created Atari. uWink creates software for restaurants to place at tables, the computers will allow customers to check in, order drinks, food, play games, interact with other diners at the restaurant and check out. I always hear people complain about the service at restaurants in Charlottesville, this seems perfect.
Would you want this in restaurant? Would having the software make us less social at dinner? I remember playing the Atari and my parents also thought it was fun, because the games were so easy to catch on to and play. It’s funny uWink’s most recent location in California is in a retirement community, that’s fun that the software allows everyone to participate. The program also allows you to do things like request a refill for a drink, order desert and draw, all with a touch screen.

It reminds me a little too much of Sheetz (sorry JMU people). I like talking to a real person (yes, I am aware of the irony of that statement given my occupation…). HOWEVER, restaurants are really in need of an easier way to pay. A table of 4+ people all paying with a different card is a nightmare. Except at Guad.

I don’t think you should be able to play games, but it would make things easier with splitting checks. I think it would be funny trying to see old(er) people trying to use it though.
