Quick Gym

October 29th 2008 by Kelly in Charlottesville

Since I work downtown I go by the Quick Gym several times a day, I’ve never seen anyone working out in there. I want someone to try it and tell me about it. I’m skeptical about a 4 minute workout. I get adds in the newspaper(yes I think I’m the last Cville resident that still gets the Daily Progress) about it and I’m curious, but I still haven’t gone in to check it out myself. Maybe it’s a rumor, but I heard if you can actually do the workout for the full 4 minutes then you get the session free, supposedly it’s that hard. Normally the Quick Gym in Charlottesville costs $60 per month or you can do pay per session. This seems lazy to me to only work out for 4 minutes. Are we really that busy?

The add that came in the newspaper also gave workout tips. It said that if you work out legs on the Quick Gym then you should recover for 24-48 hours, just like if you were lifting weights. It tries to dismiss the rumors surrounding the workout. One of these machines cost around $15,000. I wonder if it’s like the Nordic Trak. My parents had a Nordic Trak when I was growing up and the commercials always made it look so easy, but I assure you that it was not easy at all.

Have you tried it? What did you think?

I knew someone that had a membership there. But now he’s in jail for theft. Some things in life have to be earned. True story.

I always walk past it too and I call BS. You’re supposed to exercise for a minimum 30 minutes a day (which most people get in if they walk anywhere). 4 minutes? Your muscles aren’t even warmed up in 4 minutes?

That’s just a marketing scheme! Everyone is busy and you know people think “getting in shape in 4 minutes is a great idea”

…but maybe not so much for your bank account. you can join golds for $34.

I like to do jumping jacks outside their window. That’s my 4 minute workout.

I own a Quick Gym in Utah and I can tell you they work. I’ve had the business for nearly a year and I find that over 50% of those that try the facility (for free) become memmbers. The machine provides stretching, weight training and cardio. The cardio benefit comes from what is called muscle metabolism. This keeps your hear working at a cardio rate for over 20 minutes after you have finished the exercise. I have a number of competitive athletes that use our facility and they have all seen tremendous improvement in their sports. Yet, the machine is workable for anyone from 15 years up. I have many clients older than 70 that come in three times a week. You probably don’t see much activity there because people are in and out in 10-15 minutes.
