Vinegar Hill is Getting A Makeover

October 30th 2008 by Kelly in Charlottesville, Local Event

I was sad yesterday when I heard that Vinegar Hill was closing their doors. The Hook reported that Vinegar Hill was “closing for good.” Then today, The Daily Progress reported that it’s not closing for good, just getting a little update. After the film festival this weekend, Vinegar Hill will temporarily close their doors, then after some upgrades are made, they plan to reopen November 14th. They plan to be open in time for Thanksgiving, the biggest movie going day of the year! Even though the new owners are planning on updating the theater, they plan to keep the updates inline with the history of the theater. The theater will close tonight after playing Bill Maher’s, Religulous and reopen playing “Rachel Getting Married” on the 14th.

Interesting. That’s good news. I had no idea that Thanksgiving was the biggest movie day of the year!?! Wow. The pilgrims would be proud.

Thanksgiving movies are huge! What does your family do then on Thanksgiving when the rest of us are at the movie theater? All the really good movies that you look forward to going to see come out on Thanksgiving.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a movie on Thanksgiving. We’re too busy eating and sleeping!

yeah usually there are some good movies that come out on thanksgiving but this year the only one I’ve really heard hyped up is the transporter 3. jason statham(think crank, death race and collateral) is the only reason it interests me.

I know my family isn’t the only one that goes to the movies on Thanksgiving, it’s so packed you can’t even get a parking spot. Didn’t The Lord of The Rings movies come out at Thanksgiving?? Last year the big ones were Beowulf and 007.

@JustinB, Jason Statham is also the reason I go to see the Transporter movies, although as usual, the first one was by far the best. Reviews are saying the 3rd one is going to be just like Crank(there will be an explosive attached to him that he has to disarm.)

This is what we have this year:
    Australia: love story
Milk: chronicle of harvey milk’s life
Four Christmases: a couple(reese and vince vaughn have to visit 4 sets of parents because of divorce
Otto, or Up with Dead People: confused zombie tries to figure things out
Lake City: family reunites after tragedy

my family and myself watch football on thanksgiving. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a movie on thanksgiving..

  8. Kelly Says:

yeah of course! football all day and then at night you go to a movie when all the teams you care about have already played.

Almost all my family (on both sides) live in VaBeach (where I grew up). We would go to my mom’s parent’s for Thanksgiving lunch (including all the cousins ~20 people) and then a few hours later go to my dad’s parent’s for Thanksgiving dinner (and have to pretend we hadn’t eaten all day and were hungry) - again, roughly 20 people. It’s pretty crazy.

You have a huge family, wow! I bet that’s really fun though.
