Charlottesville SPCA

I stopped by the Charlottesville SPCA on Saturday to look at a dog that my friend is thinking of adopting.  We have a very nice SPCA here!  When you walk in there are about 10 cats in cages in the front room, some of these cats (the black ones) are on sale right now.  You can get a black or black and white cat for $10 right now.  Black cats are often overlooked so now they have put them on special!

It smells clean and the space looks very clean.  You step in buckets with towels in them to wipe your feet and wash your hands before you visit with the animals.  Can anyone tell me why there are so many hound dog mixes at our SPCA?  It seemed like the majority of the dogs there were a mix of some type of hound dog?  Is this because people purchase them and then they’re too loud?  I couldn’t figure it out.  The dogs seemed so sweet and for the most part were quiet.  If I had more space, I would have taken one home.

You can see all the dogs that are available for adoption from their website.  Moon, the dog to the left in the picture, is available for adoption.  She’s even prettier in person.

I think that many of the hounds are hunting dogs- often dogs from such packs are left in the field.I know I find lots wandering around during the hunting seasons.

That’s sad. I wonder if it would make a difference if the SPCA didn’t charge to come pick up your dog if it happens to get picked up by the SPCA or dropped off. I’m sure the fee is already minimal (I think just to cover costs of taking in the dog) but it might be more incentive to come get the lost hound dog.
