A band for the festival just passed our window, downtown. Kicking off yesterday and continuing through the weekend, The Virginia Film Festival has events going on downtown and at UVa. Saturday is family day, full schedule of downtown mall events here. Get the full schedule of events for the whole weekend here. My friend Margaux and her husband, Gregg Helvey, are in town this weekend from California because his film will be shown in The Festival. If you are planning on going to any of the events, I’d recommend his short film, Kavi.
“Winner of the 2009 Student Academy Award® gold medal, “Kavi” is about a boy in India who wants to play cricket and go to school, but instead he is forced to work in a brick kiln as a modern-day slave. Unsatisfied with his fate, Kavi must choose to either accept what he’s always been told, or fight for a different fate even if he’s unsure of the ultimate outcome.”
There will be a pre-screening meet & greet with Director Gregg Helvey at 1:30 pm Sunday, as well as a post screening Q&A Dinner at 7pm. Both events will take place at the Bonhoeffer House- 1841 University Circle. Please email kavithemovie@gmail.com to RSVP.

opps! The parade was completely unrelated to The Film Festival. The parade was a tribute to Johnny Gilmore: http://www.readthehook.com/blog/index.php/2009/10/23/drummer-lost-fire-victim-was-johnny-gilmore/
That’s really neat!
