Charlottesville residents and historic resources committee are upset with the new tenants of the old Elsie Garden space. Currently the store front is blocked with a couple orange construction cones and some yellow caution tape. The store front was demolished without the permission of the historic board. The store was originally built in 1921 and the curved glass windows were considered historic. The demolition can not be undone, but the project has been put on hold until the committee can decide what to do about the condition of the storefront. I’m pretty excited about the possibility of a yogurt store less than a block from our office. The new hopeful owner, that didn’t realize the construction had to be cleared previously with the board, had a projected date of opening in early December, hopefully this won’t cause too much of a delay.
