Walnut Creek

November 10th 2008 by Kelly in Charlottesville, Day Trip, Local Event 1

Just a short drive from Charlottesville Walnut Creek seems like an unknown secret. Take 5th Street Extended away from Charlottesville, you’ll pass Mosby Mountain and keep driving down a winding 2 lane rode for about 10 minutes, then you’ll get to a stop sign, go straight and Walnut Creek will be ahead on your left. It’s a beautiful park, I’m sure during the summer people take a lot more advantage of going there since in the beach area there are 4 lifeguard stands out in the water. I went on Saturday morning and there were 6 other cars in the entire parking lot. The central point is the lake, and all the trails go through the woods with portions of them around the lake. Surprisingly there isn’t a trail for just around the lake, but there are several to pick from to have the most time around the lake.

Depending on how much time you have you can vary the trail to explore. There is a whole section of the park deicated to mountain bikers, and the trails are well marked. There is also a trail for frisbee golf, just bring your own frisbee and the markers let you know where the holes are located. We only had a couple hours since Alabama was playing at 3:30, it was necessary to be home in time to watch the game, but you could make a day of hanging out at Walnut Creek because there is a lot to do.

A Growler from South Street

November 6th 2008 by Kelly in Charlottesville, Restaurant 2

Until last night at The Club, I hadn’t ever heard of a Growler. Not that I’m a huge beer drinker, but I do like South Street’s beer a lot so was excited to find that even though their beer is not sold in grocery stores, it is available for purchase. A Growler holds about 4 beers and it costs $20 at South Street. THEN, each time you bring it back, they will fill it up for you for only $4 dollars. Just wanted to pass along the info. Growler’s are sold at a lot of Breweries to carry fresh beer home. (434)293-6550
